"The Twinkle in the Lone Star"....Flatonia is an agricultural community located on I-10 halfway between Houston and San Antonio in southwest Fayette County. Established on the Southern Pacific Railroad line in 1873. Flatonia was named for a pioneer merchant, F.W. Flato. Waves of immigrants - English, German, Czech and Italian - settled in and around Flatonia. The town is a well-known train-watching spot, especially with the cross rails that run North and South, and East and West. Beautiful landscapes, ranches and countryside surround our town. Czhilispiel, our 3 day Czhill Festival, is always held on the 4th full weekend in October. It's one of the Largest Czhill Cook Offs in Texas, with continuous live music, family entertainment, parade, carnival, arts & crafts, plenty of cold beverages and good food to partake. Two museums: E.A. Arnim Archives & Museum is an old-world museum with a wealth of historic information from the area. Central Texas Rail History Center includes a Southern Pacific manually operated switch tower, a Southern Pacific Caboose, Photo Pavilion and an Information Center.
